The Social Action Committee is following up to last year’s visit from the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs with an education table about the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, signed into law, August 2016, after a five-year campaign by a coalition of groups including JCUA.

The State of Illinois became the seventh state to extend basic workplace protections to domestic workers, and ensure that this long exploited workforce enjoys the protections that all other workers have. JCUA is now in the implementation phase of this campaign, and part of that work involves educating people in our communities about this legislation, the plight of domestic workers, ethical treatment of domestic employees, and using Jewish history and values to understand why this issue is important to us.

Please stop by the table to learn about this new law, pick up resources, and consider signing a card pledging to ‘uphold the principles of the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights, and to protect and promote the rights of domestic workers in my home and community.’
