A local network of green-minded congregations has partnered with area grocers to promote awareness of Oak Park’s impending bag fee.

Starting Jan. 1, shoppers in Oak Park will be charged a 10-cent fee for every single-use bag — paper or plastic — provided. The village ordinance applies to stores that are 5,000 square feet or larger, according to the village website. Trustees approved the mandatory bag fee by a 7-0 vote in August.
