- noon -1:30 pm Rabbi Dennis will speak about "Myth, Mysticism, and Magic: An Introduction to Kabbalah"
- 8:00 pm Havdallah and lecture: "Dybbuks, Demons, and Golems, Oh My!" .Dessert and coffee will be served after the lecture

- 10:30 am - noon: Rabbi Dennis will speak on "Water in Jewish Tradition and Mysticism". The Bagel Boys will be selling bagels, lox and cream cheese, juice and coffee, prior to the lecture in the rotunda.
Lectures by Rabbi Goeffrey W. Dennis are sponsored by a grant from the Community Foundation for Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago, and are brought to you by the Adult Education Committee of Oak Park Temple in collaboration with the Dawn Schuman Institute. All lecture events are free of charge.

HEBREW and synagogue skills
We are pleased to announce that Level one and Level two Hebrew classes will again be offered on Sundays at 11 AM beginning October 18,and will continue weekly throughout the year. In addition, a one to two-session writing class will be available for students who have completed Level one or the equivalent.
For beginning students desiring an accelerated class, there will be one available beginning October 22 from 7-8:30 PM continuing for a total of five weekly sessions. Students selecting this option should be prepared to review the material thoroughly between classes and to attend each class, in order to obtain maximum benefit.
There will be an information meeting on Sunday, October 4 at 11 AM for those having questions on any aspect of the adult Hebrew program; you will have an opportunity to meet the instructors at that time.
There will be opportunities to register for these classes at the Temple on all Sundays on which the Religious School is in session beginning September 13. You may also register by e-mailing your name, address, phone and e-mail address to Susan. We need all of this information in order to order books and materials for the courses. In addition, you may register by phone to the Temple office. Please indicate which program you wish to register for (Level I, Level II, Writing class, and/or Accelerated Level I). If you are unsure which class to register for or have other questions, please attend the information session on October 4.

The Oak Park Temple 4th Annual Used Book Sale will be Sunday, December 6, 2009.

ADULT EDUCATION WITH RABBI GERSON
SUNDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 18, 10:30 until Noon - THE ARTWORK OF OAK PARK TEMPLE: A GUIDED TOUR OF THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR ARTWORK OF THE TEMPLE
Join Rabbi Gerson for a guided tour of the temple building and its artwork. As well as discussing the motives, rationale, and the artists who executed the temple’s stained glass, exterior stone carving, and bronze sculpture, Rabbi Gerson will review the ark, ner tamid (eternal light), menorah, and Torah holder in the main sanctuary, as well as the A. Raymond Katz Prophets series and the ner tamid from Washington Boulevard Temple.
The tour will begin at 10:30 in the Chapel

SUNDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 8, 10:30 until Noon - JEWS, MUSIC, AND MARGINALITY
Sampling from a wide range of classical and other musical forms, Rabbi Gerson will lead us in a program discussing the sociological and historical currents expressed in the work of Jewish composers, conductors, and artists following the emancipation of the Jews of Europe. We will hear and discuss, e.g., the music of Mendelssohn, Gottschalk, Goldmark, Mahler, Kern, Gershwin, Copland, Ligeti, Hermann, Menken, Bernstein and Reich, as well as reference key Jewish conductors and artists.

MONDAY MORNINGS STUDIES IN KABBALAHRabbi Gerson leads a small study group in a close reading and discussion of the writings of the Jewish mystics. Please speak with Rabbi Gerson for more information about scheduled dates and times.
